Born in the dense landscapes of Northern Michigan, Shroud of Despondency, is the product of lone member Rory Heikkila.
Inspired by the grim purity of the US Black Metal scene, Shroud quickly took shape as a primal force that demonstrated the talented instrumentation of its creator, and a far more emotional beast than his previous band, Domain Malevolence. Rory surrounded himself with the nature suffocating his Michigan home, and sunk even more reflective ideas into his musical vision, incorporating emotive classical guitar tracks in with the grating blackness that is the driving force of Shroud of Despondency. The year 2000 witnessed the release of "Of Nightfalls Silence", a full-length demo that so proudly presented a years worth of turmoil and hard work. Mastered by Joseph Van Fossen of California's Noctuary, "Of Nightfall's Silence", through a tortured "cult" sound production, contained something that 90% of the USBM scene lacked musical integrity, actual bass lines, and melodious guitar work, integrated in with the depressive dissonance of Shroud's Black Metal affinity.
"For Eternity Brings No Hope" includes several of the tracks from the "Of Nightfalls Silence" demo completely re-recorded and re-mastered in addition to previously unreleased material. The level of songwriting on "For Eternity Brings No Hope" has expanded upon the cultish tendencies of the US Black Metal scene, to breathe an inspired dose of life into this often underdeveloped genre.
